Decoupage a bottle with your own hands using napkins, paper, tights, eggshells. Decoupage bottles for a man, birthday, wedding, ideas with photos

Decoupage is a fascinating and uncomplicated activity that has many techniques and is accessible to even the youngest craftswomen. With its help, you can make exclusive interior items that will decorate not only your home, but also the exhibition halls of art galleries. In this review, we will look at how to perform with your own handsdecoupage for beginners step by step with photo. Don't worry that things won't work out, it's actually very simple. With the help of this technique, old furniture, dishes, shoes and many other things will find a new life in your home.

Products with decoupage are works of art

First of all, let's understand the definitions. Decoupage is gluing a design onto a surface. The picture can be placed on wood, leather, fabric, glass and almost any other product.

Reverse decoupage is the same process, but has only one feature - the picture is glued under the material. This can only be done on transparent surfaces: glass and plastic. Of course, in this case the picture is pasted face up.

For your information! If a plate is used for direct decoupage, then in the future it will only serve a decorative function. And when using the reverse technique, the dishes can be used as usual.

Tools and materials for work

Materials and tools Note

Using this technique you can decorate a book, dishes, flower pots, bottles, furniture, etc. In general, literally everything that is in your home.

Pictures can be used from special decoupage cards and napkins. In addition, for this purpose, craftswomen use drawings on fabric, old newspapers, and magazine clippings.

You can use regular nail scissors or a special tool that is sold in craft stores. The main thing is that the edges of the blades are very sharp. This is the only way to carefully cut out the desired image on a thin napkin.

You will need flat soft brushes. The pile in them should be tightly fixed. Lost lint can be a serious problem. It is better to have several brushes of different widths for smoothing and applying glue and varnish.

It is best to use regular household PVA. You can buy a specialized composition, but it will cost more. Among varnishes, it is better to give preference to acrylic. It does not emit toxic substances and is easy to use.

To decorate your work, you may need acrylic-based paints, sponges, primer, sandpaper, and craquelure.

Basic Techniques

There are different ways to fix a drawing on a surface, let's look at them:

Method one

A simple decoupage technique from napkins involves placing it on an object and securing it with glue. After drying, the surface is varnished.

Method two

For reverse decoupling, a transparent base is used. The image is glued face down to the glass. After drying, fix with varnish.

Method three

Artistic composition. To make it, many images are used, which, when glued, are combined into one. To make the picture look like one whole, painting, shadows and accents are added.

Method four

This technique is called "decopatch". For it they use pictures from magazines, drawings on fabric. To get rid of clear boundaries, the edges of paper drawings are torn off. The surface is completely filled with images.

Method five

Creating a three-dimensional image. This is a technique that requires the talent of an artist. First, an image from a paper napkin is pasted on. And then painting is done on it with careful drawing of all the smallest details.

Decoupage bottles for beginners: step by step with photos and recommendations

- the simplest and most affordable material from which you can make an original gift. You can buy a bottle of wine or fill the container with your own homemade drink. Luxurious decoration will make an impression in any case.

We have already listed the materials and tools necessary for the work, so we will not dwell on this in detail. The only thing that needs to be added to the list is a windshield wiper. They pre-treat the bottle, which has been cleared of labels.

Important! It is better to work with a glass vessel while wearing gloves. Your fingerprints are unlikely to have artistic value, so it's best not to leave them.

Bottle decoupage sequence for beginners, step by step with photos:

Illustration Description of the stage
Applying primer For priming, you can use acrylic varnish or PVA. The soil should dry well.
Making the background For the background you need to use white or light acrylic paint. You may need to apply two or even three coats to achieve a completely opaque surface.
Applying images The design on the napkin is carefully cut out with scissors. If the background of the picture and the bottle matches, do without scissors and carefully tear off the napkins. To make the design on the print easier to apply, it should be soaked in a plate of water.
We fix the drawing
You need to apply varnish over the surface of the drawing. This can be done with a soft flat brush or a spray bottle. You should make sure that the picture is not covered with wrinkles. If necessary, it must be carefully straightened with a brush.
Finishing After complete drying, you can carefully sand minor imperfections in the work. To highlight details, use a brush and dark paint. Once finishing is complete, apply a final coat of varnish.

Another option for original design is decoupage of a bottle with tights. Master class on video:

Some tricks of decoupage on glass for beginners: step-by-step recommendations with photos of applying a design from napkins

The first experience of gluing a napkin can be unsuccessful: wrinkles and folds inevitably appear, which spoil the whole result. Some tips on how to avoid this:

  • To apply a design to a convex surface, you can make “darts” on it. Cut the edges of the picture with scissors or even cut out triangular pieces. It is better to be careful with the last option; there is a risk of ruining the image if the angle of the cut is incorrectly calculated.

  • You can apply glue to the surface, and then apply the design and straighten it with a brush. Another method would be just as good - apply glue over the design, straightening it at the same time.
  • If the image is applied to an almost flat surface, you can pour glue into the center, apply a napkin and carefully disperse the composition, straightening the material over the surface.
  • You can stick an image onto a perfectly flat sheet using an adhesive pencil.
  • You can apply a design using a piece of polyethylene (a bag or a stationery file). The design is placed face down on polyethylene and moistened with water. Then a bag with a wet napkin is applied to the surface to be pasted. The package is removed, the napkin remains.

A simple master class on decoupage shoe boxes

The smooth surfaces of a cardboard shoe box are an excellent basis for decoration. This interior box will become a favorite place for household little things.

Illustration Description of the stage
Surface preparation

The corners of the box need to be strengthened with pieces of masking adhesive tape, and then the surface should be primed with acrylic primer or paint. After drying, the primer should be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper. You may need to repeat the procedure if the layer does not lie flat enough. Then you need to paint the box with the color chosen for the background.
Drawing

The place for the drawing is covered with decoupage glue. After the layer has completely dried, a pattern is placed on top and smoothed with a hot iron through a sheet of paper. Afterwards the napkin is covered with a thin layer of varnish. A layer that is too thick will cause the design to become blistered. This procedure is repeated over the entire surface of the box.
Decoration and finishing

Using a foam sponge, apply background paint and other shades to match the image. Small details are drawn with a brush. To add some casualness, you can squirt white paint on top using the bristles of a toothbrush. Afterwards the final varnish coating is applied.

Decoupage of furniture in Provence style: master class on updating a chest of drawers

Having tried your hand at simple things, you can safely start decoupage with your own hands using napkins. In addition to the usual list of working materials, you will need wood putty. It is used to pre-level all the cracks, cracks and other irregularities on the surface of the chest of drawers, cleaned of old paint.

Sequence of decoupage of kitchen furniture with your own hands, photo and description:

Image Operation description
Preparation
The furniture must be thoroughly cleaned of all layers, and defects must be smoothed out with putty. After drying and sanding, all surfaces are coated with a primer and sanded with fine sandpaper.
Preparing pictures
The design on the napkins is carefully cut out or torn off by hand, and the bottom layer is removed. The picture is coated with glue and applied to the furniture. The application is carefully straightened with a brush.
Finish coating
No need to hurry. All drawings must dry. You need to varnish all the furniture, not just the place of decoration. For large areas it is convenient to do this with a spray bottle or spray can. This way the varnish will lay down in a thin layer. For the best effect, you need to apply 3-4 layers in succession, waiting for complete drying between treatments.

Result.

Helpful advice! If you need to apply a design to a polished surface, the polishing is pre-treated with sandpaper until the shine disappears.

When decorating furniture with fabric, the process is practically no different from that described.

The beautiful French word decoupage today refers to the technique of decorating various surfaces using drawings cut out of paper. In essence, this is appliqué, by the way, and the term decoupage itself is translated as “cutting.”

The decoupage technique is quite simple to perform, but the effect it gives is amazing - with the help of ordinary drawings you can transform not only old bottles, various containers, vases or bread bins. Craftswomen decorate even pieces of furniture or wooden doors with decoupage, making them no worse than vintage or antique interior parts.

1

The easiest way to learn decoupage is to start small. For the first experiment, you can use empty containers and perform decoupage on glass or plastic bottles.

What is needed for decoupage

Craftswomen use a wide variety of elements as materials for decorating surfaces. It can be:

  • newspaper or magazine clippings;
  • three-layer table napkins with a pattern;
  • special decoupage cards that are sold in handicraft stores;
  • thin fabrics with an interesting pattern or texture.

Attention! To transfer a newspaper or magazine clipping to glass, you will need to first prepare the paper and the drawing itself.

To begin with, the picture is cut out, then it is covered with several layers of acrylic varnish. Now the paper needs to be soaked in warm water for 20 minutes. After swelling, the paper backing should come off easily, and the image itself should remain on the varnish layer. It is in this form that the drawing is glued onto the base.

The option with magazine clippings is quite difficult to implement; such work requires good skills. Decoupage cards are not cheap, and handicraft stores are not available everywhere. Working with fabric is a priori more difficult than working with thin paper; it also requires practice and a certain skill of the master.

That is why it is best to start mastering the decoupage technique with table napkins. For these purposes, napkins already available in the house are quite suitable, or the housewife can specially buy material with a pattern she likes. The main thing is that the cost of napkins is affordable for everyone, and the leftover material after decoupage will definitely be useful in the household.

Important! A napkin for decoupaging a bottle must be multi-layered so that the master can separate the top part of the paper with the pattern applied to it. The thinner the picture, the easier it is to paste it, and the more invisible the joints and other flaws in the decoupage work will be.

To work, you will need a number of tools, but these do not have to be purchased materials; they can easily be replaced with improvised means. So, to decoupage a plastic or glass bottle you will need:

  1. The bottle itself - it is better to choose a large container; it is more difficult to work with thin and narrow vessels, and the result will not be so bright.
  2. Degreaser: acetone, nail polish remover, alcohol, window cleaner and other solvents.
  3. Drawing for decoupage.
  4. Acrylic paint for painting the entire surface of the bottle (construction paint for walls or other surfaces is suitable).
  5. Colors for paint (if provided for by the project idea).
  6. A special foam brush for decoupage can be easily replaced with a regular kitchen sponge or a piece of foam rubber clamped with a clothespin.
  7. Acrylic glue for decoupage is not much better than regular PVA diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio.
  8. A wide brush made of synthetic fibers (so that hairs do not get lost during work) for applying glue.
  9. Glitter or acrylic marker, which is convenient for tracing the contours of the design on the bottle for greater brightness and effectiveness.
  10. Various beads, ribbons, shells, twine or burlap - this decor is selected in accordance with the theme of the bottle design and must correspond to the general concept of bottle decoration.

Advice! It is not at all necessary to buy special tools and materials for your first decoupage experience - they can be easily replaced.

But, if the master constantly works in this technique, it is better to purchase a professional set, then the finished decorative items will be neater, and the decoupage process itself will become easier.

DIY bottle decoupage

The first thing a novice craftsman should do is to visualize the idea, that is, imagine what the bottle will look like after decoration. Numerous photos of finished works, various master classes or a visit to a handmade exhibition can help a beginner. In accordance with this, paints of the desired shade, pictures, and various decorative elements are selected.

Now you need to find a beautiful vessel - a plastic or glass bottle of an interesting shape. Although the bottle will become colored as you work, it is still better to choose a transparent container for the first time.

Armed with the necessary tools, you can get to work.

Preparing a bottle for decoupage

First, you should try on the selected picture to the existing bottle - they must match in size. By applying other decorative items, you can understand how the bottle will look after decoupage, and how best to arrange all the decorative details.

Now the bottle needs to be prepared for painting:

  • first, the bottle is soaked in a warm soapy solution so that all the labels become soaked and easily separate from the glass or plastic;
  • Using a metal brush, not only paper labels are removed from the bottle, but also all the glue present on the surface of the vessel;
  • The bottle, wiped dry, is degreased by wiping it with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or acetone.

After this, you need to apply primer to the bottle, which in this case is acrylic paint. But this is far from the only way to prepare the basis for transferring a picture. The bottle is often covered with various textured materials, this can be sand, eggshells, seashells and much, much more. However, it is easiest to work with smooth surfaces, so it is recommended that a novice decoupage artist still paint the bottle with acrylic-based paint.

The easiest way to apply the dye is with a brush, but with this technique there will certainly be stains on the glass, and the paint itself will apply unevenly. Therefore, experienced decoupage masters suggest using a foam sponge.

In this case, the paint is sort of tamponed, that is, applied to the bottle with short pressing movements. This coloring must be repeated 2-3 times - it depends on the master’s idea and the desired degree of tinting of the existing base.

Advice! The color of the base should be one or two shades lighter than the selected pattern for decoupage. This makes it easier to hide flaws in the work, and the edges of the drawing will be less noticeable.

Each layer of paint must dry thoroughly. While the bottle is drying after the last painting, you can start painting.

Preparing a drawing for decoupage

It was decided to use a regular table napkin with a pattern we liked for the first experiment. From this napkin you need to very carefully separate the topmost layer - the one on which the pattern is applied.

Now you need to somehow separate exactly that part of the picture that will be needed for decoupage. You can do this in two ways:

  • small sharp scissors (women often use a tool from a manicure set);
  • simply tear off the thin paper, highlighting the desired fragment of the picture.

As practice shows, the first method is more convenient to use on large patterns with clear lines and borders, for cutting out geometric images, or in cases where the background is very different from the shade of the pattern.

The method of tearing off the pattern with your fingers allows you to better disguise the line where the paper and paint meet, but this will only work if the base is matched to the color of the picture itself. This method is best used by those who are just learning the art of decoupage. How to do this correctly is shown in the photo below.

Important! To make your work easier, it is recommended to divide large drawings into smaller pieces. This makes it easier to glue thin paper to the glass, and there will be less chance of air bubbles appearing during the decoupage process.

Bottle decoupage: process

Gluing a picture onto a base (in this case, a bottle) is called decoupage. Essentially, this is the transfer of a pattern to the surface.

And it is done quite simply:

  1. Use special glue for decoupage or PVA stationery glue diluted with water. The required amount of glue is poured into some container.
  2. A design cut out of a napkin is applied to the designated place on the surface of the bottle.
  3. A wide and flat brush is dipped in glue and quickly coated with a napkin. Here you need to be very careful, since the picture will be quite thin and will easily tear after getting wet, so you need to pass the brush over the surface no more than a couple of times. The hand movements of the master should be directed from the center of the application to its edges. The main task is to prevent the paper from wrinkles and expel all air bubbles from under it.
  4. The bottle is left in this form until the glue dries completely.
  5. To ensure that the bottle can be used and the picture is durable, the surface is coated with acrylic varnish in three layers. Each layer of varnish must dry well.

Attention! Recently, PVA office glue has been sold so liquid that there is no need to dilute it - you can work right away.

There is another option: use construction PVA for decoupage, but this composition must be diluted with water, selecting the proportion based on the desired consistency of the glue.

Finishing touches

You can create decor in several ways:

  • glue beads or sequins;
  • tie a satin ribbon around the neck of the bottle;
  • wrap the neck of the bottle with twine or knitting thread;
  • using glitter (a thick acrylic outline of a contrasting color) or a special marker, outline the design, make thematic inscriptions on the bottle, add glitter;
  • Make the decoupage brighter by using artistic acrylic paints and a thin brush.

There are many ways to decorate a bottle after decoupage, and this is evidenced by photos of finished works by both novice craftsmen and professionals. Here everything depends on the skills of the performer and the range of decorative elements.

The Decoupage direction is somewhere in the middle between Hand-made and art. The word decoupage came to us from the French language and literally means “to cut out”, and in fact is a type of appliqué. It is based on the technique of gluing various designs on paper, napkins, and fabrics onto hard surfaces. Decoupage is actively used in decorative art, techniques are actively developing, and the list of materials and objects used for decoration is expanding.

The passion for this technique has become widespread lately; more and more people are interested in this type of creativity and bring in their own ideas. At the moment, there are entire schools that are engaged in promotion and training on the Internet, and not only.

Decoupage bottles photo

During the period of the formation of the decoupage hobby in Russia, one of the first objects that literally all masters began to decorate were bottles of wine and champagne. Particular attention was paid to bottles with a non-standard shape and voluminous texture. They were not thrown away, but turned into real interior decor.

Various materials and techniques are used to decoupage bottles - napkins, putty, decorative elements, or in general, whatever is at hand.

What you need for decoupage, a list for beginners

As mentioned above, there are many techniques for performing decoupage, and they are actively developing - new materials, techniques and directions are appearing.

But still, there are main directions that we will give:
Classic decoupage - gluing napkins, decoupage cards, rice paper onto a flat hard surface;

Artistic decoupage - differs from the classic one in that artistic techniques, additional drawings, underpaintings, aging and more are added to the main image;

Reverse decoupage - gluing a picture onto the back surface of a transparent base;

Volumetric decoupage - when decorating, various volumetric pastes, putty and decorative elements are used.

In order to work in certain techniques, a set of materials is required - different in each specific case, but there is a necessary set that any beginning craftswoman should have:

Napkins, rice paper, decoupage card— necessary components for almost any technique, the basis of any composition. You can now buy these materials at any craft store, office supply store, or online. You can use ordinary table napkins if you find interesting ones with good image quality and a suitable subject.

Sandpaper– should always be in your arsenal for polishing surfaces; as a rule, there should be several types of grain – medium and fine, since there are several stages of polishing.

Alcohol or any alcohol-containing liquid to degrease the surface; you can also use nail polish remover.

Primer– a special acrylic material, applied as a base for decoupage for good adhesion to the surface.

Acrylic paints– in decoupage, mainly only acrylic materials are used, this is due to the fact that they dry quickly and are easy to apply. It is better to have a range of colors in your arsenal, as they are often used for painting.

Glue for decoupage- as a rule, it is acrylic, but ordinary PVA household glue is widely used.

Acrylic lacquer– There are many varieties of acrylic varnish – matte, glossy and chameleon. Many needlewomen use ordinary high-quality construction acrylic varnish, but for beginning craftswomen it is recommended to use professional decoupage varnish.

Brushes– synthetic brushes, mostly flat, are most widely used in decoupage. The sizes may be different, as they are used for different purposes.

Stationery file– in some cases used for gluing napkins.
Scissors- used when cutting out images; many craftswomen use manicures.
Roller– a small construction roller is quite suitable; it is used to smooth out the pasted image.

Stack- This is an artistic tool, very well suited for mixing paints.

What varnish is needed for decoupage

One of the most important materials is decoupage varnish; the overall result often depends on it. As a rule, varnish is applied at the very end to fix the image. The quality and composition of the varnish also affects the final appearance.

Varnishes are divided into several types according to composition and purpose (decorative and finishing).
Acrylic lacquer– the most popular, it is non-toxic, odorless and non-flammable, as it is water-based. Thanks to its composition, it dries quickly and does not turn yellow over time.
Acrylic lacquer used not only as a finishing layer, but also as an intermediate layer - to secure the next layer. The intermediate varnish is then used as a basis for further decoration.
Due to its wide composition capabilities, there is a line of varnishes with decorative effects.
In order to be fully armed, make sure that you have several types of varnish in your workshop - regular acrylic (matte and glossy) and finishing.

What glue is needed for decoupage

Acrylic glue is mainly used for decoupage. Art stores sell special glue for decoupage; it is sold in small jars and is quite expensive.

Most brands specializing in the production of goods for applied arts have glue in their lines. In addition, most professional craftswomen actively use PVA construction adhesive of various brands.

If you are a beginner craftsman, it is better to use professional glue, but if you do not have the opportunity to purchase glue in an art store, we will tell you about the most important characteristics of the glue necessary for it to be used in decoupage works:

  • Colorless when dry;
  • Medium consistency;
  • Should not dry out quickly;
  • Should not turn yellow over time;
  • Should not have a smell.

Decoupage of bottles with napkins step by step, master class

If you want to diversify your interior, we suggest decorating an ordinary glass bottle. It can be used as a decorative piece of furniture, or as a vase.

To decorate a bottle with napkins you will need:

  • Glass bottle.
  • A decoupage napkin or card, rice paper will also work, the design can be anything.
  • Alcohol, vodka or solvent to degrease the surface.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Decoupage glue or PVA glue.
  • Acrylic varnish.
  • Brushes, sponges (you can use a dish sponge), scissors.

First you need to prepare the bottle - remove labels and degrease the surface.

Before gluing the napkin, we will make the background with acrylic paint. Use the background color at your discretion, the main thing is that it matches the pattern on the napkin. Dilute the background paint with water so that it turns out translucent like a haze. For relief, make several layers. Leave the space for the drawing unpainted.

You need to cut out a design from a napkin, but you can simply tear it out with your hands. Separate the bottom two layers of napkin.

We apply a napkin to the surface remaining under the drawing and coat it with a layer of glue on top. Try to get rid of any bubbles and carefully straighten out the folds. Let the glue dry. Try to work carefully as the napkin is very thin and can easily tear.

Now you need to fix the drawing; to do this, you need to cover the bottle with a thin layer of acrylic varnish.

After the first layer of varnish has dried, you can give the bottle an aged look. To do this, dilute black or other dark paint with water and use an old toothbrush to spray it on. It is better to practice on an unnecessary surface first. It is necessary to take into account that when sprayed, the paint can scatter in all directions, so it is better to do this over a basin or bucket so as not to stain everything around.

After the paint has dried, apply two more layers of varnish.

As a result, we got a full-fledged piece of furniture from an unnecessary bottle.

DIY decoupage of bottles with tights step by step with photos

Volumetric decoupage- one of the most popular techniques; to implement it, various auxiliary materials are used to create volume. Texture is achieved through decorative painting with contrasting colors.

We offer a master class in which ordinary women's tights are used as the material for creating volume.

Materials used:

  • Glass bottle with screw cap.
  • PVA glue.
  • Nylon tights.
  • Hot glue gun.
  • Peas.

Cut off the stocking part of the tights.

Fill a deep container with glue and soak.

Place on the bottle and form a drape, leave to dry.

For the hat, use a metal cap. Place a small piece of stocking soaked in glue onto the lid. Connect the ends and screw them onto the top of the lid. Bend the edges of the lid to create a hat shape and leave to dry.

Cut strips from the stocking part of the tights.

Gather each strip onto a thread.

Form roses.

Soak the roses in glue and also send them to dry.

Glue the dried roses onto the dress and onto the bottle.

Glue a bottle cap to the bottom of the hat.

Glue decorative elements in the form of beads and earrings.

Paint the finished composition with spray paint, first brown and then gold, while using gold paint to paint only the protruding parts.

Decoupage of bottles with paper master class

Another available material for decorating a bottle using the decoupage technique is toilet paper. With its help you can create any volumetric elements.

You will need:

  • Glass bottle.
  • Degreasing liquid – alcohol, solvent, etc.
  • Any PVA glue.
  • Foam sponge.
  • Stationery clip.
  • Synthetic brush.
  • Sponge with large pores.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Napkins.
  • Acrylic paints.
  • Acrylic varnish.

Clear the bottle of labels and degrease with an alcohol-containing compound or a napkin.

Prime the surface with white paint or a special primer; do not paint the neck yet. Let it dry.

Place the napkin on the bottle and cover it with glue; using a brush, try to carefully smooth out all the wrinkles from the center to the edges.

Coat the rest of the bottle generously with glue.

Place pieces of toilet paper textured onto the glue-coated surface. Leave the bottle to dry.

After the paper has dried well, coat the entire surface of the bottle with varnish.

Paint the bottle a color that matches the color of the napkin.

Complete the picture where necessary.

Dip a dry sponge into the paint, beat it thoroughly and go over the raised areas - this will add additional volume.

Dry the bottle thoroughly again and coat it with varnish, maybe in two layers.

The original decorative bottle is ready.

Decoupage of bottles with eggshells master class

Decoupage with eggshells has a similar end result to the craquelure effect - aging by simulating cracks in the paint. The difference is that the surface becomes more prominent.

The advantage is that the material used is not expensive art material, but ordinary eggshells.
Another plus is that with the help of the shell we can hide various minor imperfections of the decorated surface, for example, chips.

Many may have a question - what to do first: stick on the shell or stick on the napkin. In principle, there is not much difference, act according to the situation. The main thing is that if you have already glued the napkin, before you start gluing the shell, cover the design with varnish, since when you are gluing, there is a high probability that glue will get on the napkin - this will make it wet.

Start by covering a small area of the surface with glue and, as shown in the figure, stick on pieces of the shell. Work in small areas.

Below we offer step-by-step detailed photographs.

Decorating with eggshells really helps to hide various inscriptions and that’s why I often use them to decorate bottles. If you already have an idea of how the bottle or object will be decorated, you can start by gluing the shell; if not, first do decoupage, then stick the shell.

After covering the entire surface as planned, leave the bottle to dry. This may take quite a long time, but be patient.

Decoupage bottles with fabric and lace master class

Decoupage using textile materials - fabric, lace - gives a wonderful decorative result. The relief is voluminous and unpredictable. Using paints you can give the effect of aging and antiquity.

Decoupage using fabric is done by analogy with the decor of tights. The material is impregnated with glue and laid out on the bottle in the form of a drapery. Look what a great result you can get.

No less beautiful bottles are obtained when using lace.

We offer a master class on bottle decoupage.

You will need:

  • Glass bottle.
  • Liquid for degreasing surfaces.
  • Napkin or decoupage card.
  • Acrylic primer.
  • Acrylic paints.
  • Lace.
  • White outline.
  • Brushes.
  • PVA glue.

Using stamping movements, apply primer to the surface of the bottle, having previously degreased it. Dry, then you can apply a layer of acrylic paint on top of the primer.

Glue the laces with PVA glue.

Cut out additional decorative elements and glue them on too.

Cover the lace with acrylic paint.

Use an acrylic outline to apply dots at the base and neck of the bottle.

Paint the top of the bottle in a suitable color.

You can use white paint to tone down the color a little if it is too bright.

Separate the top layer of the napkin with the pattern, tear out the picture with your hands along the edges of the image.

Glue the picture onto the bottle using a brush and glue, apply the glue on top of the picture.

On the back side also stick a picture, maybe the same one.

In order to combine the images, make underdrawings.

To consolidate the result, the bottle can be coated with acrylic varnish in several layers.

  • The surface is first degreased. To do this, you need to wipe it with alcohol.
  • Then special primer for decoupage is applied, which is sold in craft stores. However, acrylic paint will also work perfectly as a base. The paint is applied with the most common foam sponge, which is usually used to create makeup.

IMPORTANT: There is often a need for a second layer of acrylic varnish.

  • Once the varnish is dry, You can treat the bottle with glass glue and then attach the napkins. It is recommended to use a special pistol. Do not worry about the fact that the glue is formed in the form of ampoules - they melt in the gun
  • After 60 minutes the bottle should be cover with several more layers of acrylic varnish

As you know, decorating objects is not a new activity and has a fairly rich and interesting history. Decoupage is rightfully considered one of the most popular decorative finishing techniques. It, in turn, includes many directions, types and styles. Some of them can be mastered quickly, while others, more complex, require special knowledge, experience and skills.

A little history

From French, the name of the decorating technique “decoupage” is translated as “cut”. The purpose of this art is to decorate objects by gluing cut-out figures from colored paper or ready-made designs on them in combination with elements made from other materials.

The decoupage technique first became popular in France back in the 17th-18th centuries. It is divided into several dozen species. Many (the most complex) of them were developed during this time. Some items could take months or years to create due to the large number of different layers required to produce them. It is known that such historical figures as Madame de Pompadour and Marie Antoinette were fond of decoupage.

Objects for decoupage

Items such as furniture, dishes, boxes, postcards, vases and much more are suitable for decoration. By showing your imagination, you can transform any thing beyond recognition and turn a completely unattractive object into a real work of art.

Most often, the decoupage technique is used to decorate bottles of drinks in honor of any holidays. It could be an anniversary, a wedding, or our beloved New Year. Decoupage of bottles is always fashionable, stylish and original.

Types of design. Decopatch

There are only 5 main types of decoupage: decopatch, direct (or classic), reverse, artistic (or smoky) and volumetric. They are all significantly different from each other, but they are still united by basic technology.

Decopatch, which is also called decoupage in the patchwork style, is characterized by the fact that individual motifs are not applied to the object being decorated, but its entire surface is completely filled with pieces of paper with a pattern. It turns out to be some kind of imitation of the patchwork quilt we all know. This decor is created using special deco patch paper. Usually it is stylized to resemble some texture of a fabric pattern or natural fur. But decopatch can also be done using more conventional means used for decoration.

The second type is classic

The direct view involves gluing pictures to any type of surface. In this case, the image must be carefully, smoothly and efficiently attached using a wet, hot or dry method, and it directly depends on the material used. This can be rice paper, decoupage cards or regular napkins.

After all the pictures are glued, they are varnished. When it is completely dry, the surface of the object is sanded until a completely smooth texture is formed. Then, if desired, the drawing can be supplemented, for example, to give it volume, toned or aged.

The third type is reverse

It is used only on transparent glass surfaces. Decoupage of bottles, vases and plates looks very beautiful. In this case, the motif is glued to the opposite side of the object, and the whole process is reversed. This is due to the fact that the surface to be processed is located in front of the front side of the design.

The fourth type is artistic

It is also called smoky. This type of decoupage imitates painting using other techniques and various effects. It provides for a harmonious combination of the pasted motif and the background into a complete picture, where no obvious transitions from one to another should be visible.

Fifth type - volumetric

Using this technique, a mixture of painting and relief is achieved. Texture irregularities are usually created through the use of fabric, structural paste or natural materials. They can be small shells, cereals or eggshells. Volumetric decoupage of bottles with fabric looks especially beautiful.

General instructions for decoupage

Despite the apparent complexity of this decoration technique, it is quite easy to master. Experience, as you know, comes in the process of work, so it’s worth trying to make the simplest bottle decoupage for beginners yourself. The classic type of decoration is perfect for this.

Necessary materials: napkins with a pattern, an empty bottle, scissors, special glue for decoupage or PVA, roller, sponge, brush, varnish and acrylic paints.

● First you need to choose the bottle you would like to decorate. You should not take too elaborate forms. Because the simpler they are, the easier it will be to design the bottle in decoupage style.

● Take a napkin you like and carefully cut out the design shown on it. Since it consists of several layers, it is necessary to separate the topmost one. Don't worry that the drawing will tear - the paper is quite durable. It is with this motive that we will continue to work.

● If you don’t have decoupage glue, you can use PVA, but before doing this you need to dilute it slightly with water. Then we spread the motif and carefully glue it to the surface of the bottle. The pattern must be carefully smoothed, starting from the center and gradually approaching the edges. Since our napkin is a little wet, it can be easily damaged. The glued image is smoothed with a roller, and excess glue is removed with a sponge.

● At this point, decoupage of bottles with napkins can be considered almost complete. But if you wish, tint them with acrylic paints, draw some patterns or stick on beads and shells. In this case, you can do whatever comes to your mind.

● When the bottle is dry, it is coated with a special decoupage varnish. Some, in the absence of one, use colorless nail polish. After this, the product should be taken out to the balcony, where it will finally dry and weather. That's it, your first decoupage item is ready!

Partial decoration with fabric

In order to make such decoupage of bottles with your own hands, you will have to visit not only a store with stationery supplies, but also look where they sell goods for artists. One way or another, all materials are quite accessible. In addition to fabric and a bottle, you will need PVA glue, putty, alcohol, a drawing, which will then be transferred to the fabric, as well as acrylic varnish, primer and paints. It would be great if the set of colors included gold and silver.

Decoupage of bottles always begins with cleaning their surface. It is necessary to thoroughly wash and remove all paper stickers on them. To do this, you just need to soak them in warm water for a while. The bottle is then wiped with alcohol to remove all fat. This procedure is mandatory. After this, the entire surface is coated with acrylic varnish. I must say that it dries quite quickly.

The next stage of decoupage will be the proper preparation of the fabric. To do this, pour glue into a bowl and dilute it with water 1:1. For better contact with the glass surface, a little putty is usually added to it. If the fabric is white, then paint of the desired color is also added there.

Now the material is dipped into the impregnation solution and then wrung out. The shape of the flap is arbitrary, and the size must be large enough to wrap half the bottle. The fabric should be laid in beautiful, elegant folds and left to dry for about a day. After this, you can apply other decorative decorations: beads, sparkles or foam balls. When all the elements are ready, the bottle is opened with varnish.

Full fabric decoration

In order to create decoupage of bottles that are entirely decorated with fabric, you can take scraps of any size. It is better if it is satin, silk or chintz. Before use, they need to be washed and dried well.

We make a solution of PVA glue and water and drop pieces of fabric into it. Then we take out one at a time and attach it to the surface of the bottle with beautiful folds. You can cut out one oval or round piece from which to make a medallion. It must be glued evenly, without a single wrinkle.

Next, when the fabric on the bottle has dried, the medallion is decorated with some kind of pattern, for example, a napkin pattern. In this case, glue is applied only to the reverse part of the motif and strictly along the contour. After it dries, the excess paper is torn off. When finishing the decoupage of bottles with your own hands, the fabric is decorated with various small elements or more voluminous details, such as large beads, flowers made from ribbons or beaded ornaments. If you wish, you can paint your product with watercolor, gouache or acrylic paints. To complete the process, the bottle is varnished and dried.

Master class: decoupage with napkins

Beginners in this business should not take on any overly complex decoration. It is worth trying the simplest classic type of technique, supplemented, if desired, with small volumetric details. Consider decoupage of bottles with napkins. A master class with a step-by-step description of actions will help you in your work.

● Step 1. Choose a napkin with a black and white design you like and tear it off or cut it out. Then carefully separate the topmost layer. We will use it to decorate our product.

● Step 2. Wash the bottle well, remove labels, if any, and degrease the surface with alcohol. Then evenly coat with white acrylic paint.

● Step 3. Glue the cut out napkin motif. To do this, we use PVA glue diluted in half with water.

● Step 4. At the top above the image, carefully paint with a thin brush with white acrylic so as to capture the edges of the napkin.

●Step 5. Now below the drawing we do the same, but only with black paint, and tint it to the very bottom. After the bottle has dried, we open its entire surface 2 times with acrylic varnish.

● Step 6. Thus, we have a very nice and original bottle. You can decorate your creation according to your taste and desire, for example, glue white and black beads, bows, etc.

Decoupage wedding bottles

Now in specialized salons and stores you can find any paraphernalia for various special events. Sometimes their diversity is simply amazing! There you can buy very beautiful large flower arches and small boutonnieres, fancy-shaped glasses and decorated bottles, which are displayed on the table for the bride and groom. And it should be noted that all this is not cheap. But why spend a lot of money if you can decoupage bottles with your own hands? In addition, in this case the products will be exclusive.

It’s okay if this is your first time encountering this design technique. Of course, mastering it requires time and special napkins, which are not sold in every store. But there is a simpler option that will allow even a beginner who is not associated with the art of artistic decoration to make original decoupage of wedding bottles.

Simple design

First of all, for simplified decoration using a regular greeting card, you will need a bottle of champagne, the color of which does not matter, white acrylic paint and varnish, and a brush. In addition, you will have to visit a hardware store and purchase silver or gold paint there. You need to choose a card with a wedding theme. It is advisable that the drawing be on a white or other, but always light, background, since it will be much easier to disguise than a dark one.

At the first stage, decoupage of a champagne bottle begins with removing all labels and traces of glue using warm water and a sponge. Then the surface is degreased with acetone or alcohol and covered with white acrylic paint, but the layer may turn out uneven. There is nothing to worry about here, since after all the work is completed this minor defect will be absolutely unnoticeable. The easiest way to apply paint is with a sponge.

The next stage is preparing the postcard. First, it is coated with varnish in 2 layers and left to dry. Don't be afraid that the edges will curl, this is a normal process. Now very carefully you need to separate the top thin layer with the pattern from the cardboard base. You will get an improvised decoupage napkin. Then the design is cut out along the contour. You can leave it whole, but it is best to separate it into separate fragments, for example, images of newlyweds, flowers and doves with rings.

We glue the pictures to the bottle with PVA glue, while we smear not the back of the image, but the product itself, and smooth them out. We dilute light pink and pale blue acrylic paints and, to hide the edges of the card, carefully draw along their edges with a wide brush, carefully shading the borders. We continue decoupaging the champagne bottle by applying silver or gold veins to it, which will hide all small defects and irregularities.

And finally, the final stage is protruding decor, which can be used as silver or golden bows and artificial pearls of different sizes. They will help give your creation a finished look. This completes the decoupage of the wedding bottle.

As you can see for yourself, decorating objects with your own hands is quite an exciting activity. Decoupage is not such a complicated decoration technique. And besides, it does not require too much expense, because it is not for nothing that it arose, as they believe, in the circles of low-income segments of the population. But, despite this, thanks to the imagination of talented people, decoupage was able to turn into real art!
